Discover Falassarna: A Beach Paradise

Falassarna, located 59km west of Chania and 17km from Kissamos, is set against the stunning backdrop of the Gramvousa Peninsula. Known for its crystal-clear waters and soft, whitish sand, this expansive bay is home to some of Greece’s most beloved beaches.

Beaches of Falassarna

Falassarna's shore spans a large area and features five consecutive beaches, with the central two attracting the most visitors due to their beauty and facilities. The main beach, Pachia Ammos, stretches 1km in length and 150m in width, offering ample space for relaxation and beach activities without feeling overcrowded. Equipped with umbrellas, snack bars, and cafes, Pachia Ammos also provides options for water sports and beach volleyball.

More Secluded Options

Just north of the main beach lies a quieter 800m stretch, divided into smaller sections by a sand dune and rocks, ideal for those seeking tranquility. Nearby, the chapel of Agia Paraskevi and a fresh spring add to the charm and convenience of the area.

Further exploration reveals a small cove near the archaeological site, perfect for windy days or when privacy is desired. To the south, Livadi beach offers excellent snorkeling opportunities thanks to its sandy shore and rocky seabed. Adjacent to Livadi is an important wetland, a haven for bird watchers, especially in the winter months.

Natural and Historical Significance

The entire area around Falassarna is a protected nature reserve, highlighting its ecological importance. The ruins of the ancient Greco-Roman city of Phalassarna at the northern end of the beach add a historical dimension to your visit, allowing you to combine a beach day with a touch of archaeology.

Sunset and Nightlife

Falassarna is renowned for having the best sunsets in Crete, with unobstructed views over the horizon, creating a perfect setting for a romantic evening. As night falls, the beach becomes a vibrant venue for parties during the summer, offering a lively night scene against the backdrop of the setting sun.

Falassarna is not just a beach; it’s a comprehensive experience that combines natural beauty, historical exploration, and vibrant nightlife, all set in one of the most breathtaking landscapes in Crete.
